The City of Rochester has a long history. The passage of time has brought many changes to the City, especially our downtown. When you talk to most people about the downtown they talk about the days of Woolworths and the Scenic Theater. Days when the Down town was full or people and businesses. Rochester Main Street has been working in our downtown to not only preserve our heritage but to embrace our future. None of the projects we have done could have been accomplished without the generous support of our many financial supporters as well as our many volunteers! We hope you can enjoy the projects we have done in the past and will consider sponsoring or volunteering for the many more projects to come in the future!

The Great Race 2014

On Saturday, June 2, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 3:30 pm on Hanson Street the Great Race came to NH for the first time in its long history. This was a great partnership between Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce and Rochester Main Street.

The Great Race is an antique, vintage and collector car competitive controlled speed endurance 2,100 mile road rally on public highways. Over 100 participants traveled over a nine-day period from Ogunquit, Maine to The Villages, Florida. The oldest vehicle competing was a 1915 Hudson and a special treat is the original white “Leslie” auto driven by Tony Curtis in the movie “The Great Race”. This race had a $150,000 purse for the winners.

Public Murals

We are super excited to have our first Murals under our belt. Special thanks goes to Michael Provost and Lui (our cultural exchange student from China) for getting this done. We are hoping to add several more to the City in the upcoming years.

Factory Court

In 2000, Rochester Main Street started with a road that was an exit from public parking. This road was a particular problem with many accident and many more near misses. We took the area and built a public space. This space has been used for our Factory Court Concert Series every summer since, where the motto is bring a chair and grab a lunch. These concerts not only bring music to the downtown but also drive business to our local restaurants.  At each of these concerts you can see many people with food from neighboring restaurants. The pictures to the left show just some of the great artists we have had at these concerts. To see this years concert lineup Click Here

Rochester Main Street holds the lease on this area and maintains it.  In addition to us using it for our events, we approve other organisations to use it as well. If you would be interested in using the Factory Court area for a public event please contact our office.

Scare Crows

Every Fall we partner with the City of Rochester's Public Works Department to put up these scarecrows throughout the downtown area. This project would not be possible with out the help of Studly Flower Gardens who stores the scare crows through out the year.

Every year the volunteers put out a call for new clothing to be donated to fix the old tattered cloths. Main street must order replacement parts and volunteers help repair any damaged scarecrows. After they are done the Public Works Department puts them up and then takes them down. So we can store them away.
