| Find the answer to the weekly question in this newsletter! Simply email the correct answer to director@rochestermainstreet.org. A weekly winner will be drawn from all correct answers and will be qualified for our quarterly drawing. The quarterly drawing winner will receive new Rochester Main Street Gift Certificates, valued at $50. These certificates can be redeemed at participating Rochester businesses! Entries must be received no later than the Monday following the date of the Main Street Matters newsletter. Weekly winners will be announced in each subsequent Main Street Matters and the first quarterly winner will be drawn on Wednesday, June 30th.

| Barbara Wold, author and international retail consultant and customer service professional will be hosting a seminar in Rochester on Monday, May 24 from 8:30 until 11:30 am at the Roberge Center in downtown Rochester. Barbara will be speaking on Customer Services and Business Appearances. With over 40 years of experience in the retail world Barbara has engaged audiences with her areas of expertise including customer care, marketing strategy, consumer buying patterns, building business relationships, image, sales and service quality, public relations, redevelopment and tourism, which truly make Wold a master in the retail industry. This seminar is being presented in cooperation with the Rochester Economic Development Office and Rochester Main Street Program through training funds allocated from the North Main Street Bridge Action Plan by the City of Rochester. There is no charge for any Rochester business to attend this seminar, however you must pre-register. Non-Rochester businesses may attend on a space available basis for a fee of $15.00. In addition to her seminar, Barbara will be hosting a roundtable luncheon (Dutch Treat) immediately following the seminar. There is also an opportunity to apply for a free one-hour one on one session with Barbara in your place of business on Monday afternoon, May 24. From her world speaking tours and over 40 years sales and management experience, Barbara's message is equally pertinent to sales, service and restaurant businesses alike.  | Studley's Hosts Window Box Planting Seminar

Jeff Meulenboek at Studley's Flower Garden's will be hosting a short seminar for businesses looking to participate in the downtown Window Box/Plantings Contest being sponsored by Rochester Main Street Design Committee Volunteers. Learn what plants are hot and what are not when planting in a downtown climate, and how to care for them. Those attending will receive 25% off plants purchased that evening. Studley's will offer a 10% discount to those businesses that have registered for the contest, but who cannot attend the seminar.  | 2nd Annual Music for Giving Recital - Andrea Veal Voice Studio

| | Students of the Andrea Veal Voice Studio will be performing a recital of classical vocal and piano music on June 5 at First Church Congregational in Rochester. The recital will be about an hour in length, followed by a reception given by the church. Performers hail from the communities of Rochester, Barrington, Strafford, Farmington, Durham, Pittsfield, and Manchester, and range in age from elementary school to adult. The program includes art songs and arias in English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish (translations will be provided).
Last year's Music for Giving Recital raised over $800 for two Rochester food banks. This year the recital will benefit the Cocheco Valley Humane Society and the First Church General Fund. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors; children under age 6 receive free admission. Tickets may be obtained at the door or by calling the Voice Studio at 332-1372. Volunteers at Rochester Main Street really need some help with the upcoming Shoe Festival! We really need 10 pairs each of gently used high heels, sneakers, sandals and flip-flops. Also, if you and /or your friends and family can spare a few hours, we are in need of traffic control, activities coordinators, set up , break down and registration volunteers.
