Celebrity Server Night at Mel Flanagan's Irish Pub & Cafe - Saturday, March 6 | |
Mel and Walt of Mel Flanagan's on North Main Street are excited to announce a new dining concept for Saturday, March 6th from 5-9 pm. Joining together with local celebrity "servers", anyone may order off of the regular menu or enjoy the specials and all celebrity server tips will be donated between Gerry's Food pantry and our local homeless shelter. Signing up to serve hungry diners that evening are Police Capt. Paul Callaghan, Fireman Dick Giguerre, Mayor TJ Jean, State Senator Jackie Cilley and 2009 Citizen of the Year Gerry Gilbert. Mel and Walt have promised to add $100 to the total and hope that other downtown establishments will also take up the idea. This promises to be a great fun filled evening for all and a great fundraiser for all. You might even want reservations for this one folks, as there could be a waiting line out the door! Irish Gala at Opera House to Benefit St. Elizabeth Seton School - Sunday, March 7 | |
Looking to enjoy a bit old Ireland? Head on down to Rochester Opera House on Sunday, March 7th for some dancing , bagpiping , and ballads. Doors open at 1;00pm and tickets are just $10, with proceeds benefitting St Elizabeth Seton School. Following the 2:00 show, there will be a meet and greet at Mel Flanagan's Irish Pub and Café. Ticket are available at the door, or you can purchase in advance by calling the school at 332-4803. |

Rochester Main Street's sidewalk Talk for March will feature Rochester's Mayor Thomas J. Jean discussing business in the city and the downtown. The event takes place at Mel Flanagan's Irish Pub and Café at 8:00 am. All businesses are welcome, and refreshments will be served. |

Jenny-Wren Gallery & Studio 109 Team Up to Collect Children's Books for Rochester Reads | |
The Jenny~Wren Gallery and Studio 109 are pleased to announce that during the month of March, anyone donating 5 or more childrens' books will be entered into a fabulous raffle. Prizes include a $25 gift certificate from the 103 Restaurant, $25 gift certificate from Studio 109 towards their summer program or a special gift from the Jenny-Wren. Rochester Reads is a grassroots literacy group whose dual mission is to ensure that every child is read to 20 minutes a day and that every child reads at or above grade level by the end of grade 3. Over the last 7 years, more than 15,000 books have been distributed within the City of Rochester! This small, active group of citizens meets on the second Friday of each month, from noon to one, at the Rochester Public Library and always welcomes new members.

Business Support Needed for Public Meeting - March 9 | |
Rochester Main Street is asking for the support of the downtown businesses. On Tuesday, March 9, the City Council Finance Committee will vote whether or not to recommend the Council budget the funds for the North Main Street Bridge Action Plan. The Bridge Project has gone out to bid and it will be happening this summer with an attending closing of the bridge. Main is asking support from our downtown business owners who will be directly affected by this project. Please turn out, as this is the time to be heard! |

Rebecca Rule at Rochester Historical Society - March 11 at 7 pm | |
The Rochester Historical Society has received a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council to sponsor a program titled, "That Reminds Me of a Story: Yankee Humor and the New England Story Telling Tradition," by popular humorist Rebecca Rule. It will be presented on Thursday, March 11, at 7 PM at the Rochester Historical Society Museum at 58 Hanson Street. Rule, the host of the New Hampshire Authors Series on NH Public Television, is the author of several books, including her most recent, Live Free and Eat Pie: A Storyteller's Guide to New Hampshire. She will be telling funny stories she has collected at small town gatherings over the last ten years, plus a classic story or two. The program is free and open to the public. Asleep at the Wheel at Rochester Opera House - March 12 | |
Hey Good Lookin', the nine-time Grammy award winning Western swing, boogie and roots-music band Asleep at the Wheel plays the best of their Boot Scootin' Boogie for you All Night Long on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 8:00 PM at the Rochester Opera House. The legendary band's collaboration with Willie Nelson on Willie and the Wheel recently won a 2010 Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. Asleep at the Wheel, formed in Paw Paw, West Virginia in 1969, has released more than twenty studio albums producing more than twenty singles on the Billboard Country Charts. Founder Ray Benson has led an ever-changing line-up (over 80 members) of talented musicians for forty years in his quest to keep alive the authentic sound of Big Band Western Swing Music. While remaining true to classic Country, Asleep at the Wheel has adapted their repertoire of music for symphonies with the Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth and Amarillo Pops.
